Scope

• Oxandrolone is widely used in medicine for children and women. In children, it perfectly restores the skin (after burns). Due to its high popularity among athletes-culturists and the spread of cases of abuse in the sports environment, all dosage forms of the drug, its salts, isomers, esters were categorised as controlled substances in the USA, considered as a means of doping. The drug belongs to orphan drugs (means used for the treatment of rare diseases), shows high efficacy in the treatment of:

• alcoholic hepatitis;
• progressive muscular dystrophy;
• protein metabolism disorders against the background of trauma, burns, radiation therapy;
• Turner’s syndrome;
• weight loss in HIV-infected patients;
• hereditary Quincke’s oedema;

• osteochondrosis;
• osteoporosis.
