This medicine is used to help people regain the weight they have lost due to certain medical conditions ( such as surgery, chronic infection, trauma, long-term use of corticosteroid drugs such as hydrocortisone/prednisolone ). It is also used to relieve bone pain due to loss of bone mass ( osteoporosis ). Oxandrolone belongs to a class of drugs known as anabolic steroids . These drugs are similar to male hormones produced by the body.
How to use Oxandrolone
Take this medicine orally as prescribed by your doctor, usually 2 to 4 times a day . It can be taken with food or milk if stomach upset occurs .
The dosage depends on your health condition and response to treatment .
Use this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it . To help you remember, take it at the same time every day. This medicine is usually used for short-term treatment only.
Misuse or abuse of anabolic steroids can cause serious side effects such as heart disease (including heart attack ), stroke , liver disease , mental problems / mood problems, abnormal drug-seeking behaviour, or abnormal bone growth (in teenagers). Do not increase the dose or use this medicine more often or for longer than prescribed. If you misuse or abuse anabolic steroids, you may experience withdrawal symptoms (such as depression , irritability, fatigue) when you suddenly stop taking the drug. These symptoms may last from a few weeks to months.
